SPECIAL Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has resigned.

Chanda says he has already tendered his resignation letter to President Edgar Lungu.

Addressing the press at State House today, Chanda said after reading through the draft constitution, he has understood the constitutional clause which requires civil servants who intend to aspire for political office to resign two years before an election.

Chanda said he does not want to be caught up with the clause in case he decides to aspire for political office in future.

And Chanda has since thanked the President for according him an opportunity to serve the country at a highest government level.

“last evening I tendered my resignation to His Excellency the President and he has accepted my departure into the private sector. I have perused the draft constitution particularly on the requirement for civil servants to vacate office two years ahead of elections and I do not want to be caught up in this clause should I aspire for political office in the future,” said Chanda.
